Operations Updates

Summer is in full swing at the resort with daily operations happening until September 1. Hot, dry weather makes for the perfect day by the pools but it’s also important to be aware of the current wildfire situation in any destination you visit.

The Regional District of East Kootenay has put together 10 quick tips to keep in mind when visiting the East Kootenay this summer:

  1. A full fire ban in effect prohibits all open burning, fireworks and campfires. Portable propane stoves are currently allowed; however, the flame height must be 15cm or smaller and the stove must be ULC or CSA-rated.
  2. Check the bans and restrictions page on bcwildfire.ca so you understand both burning AND area access restrictions in your intended destination.
  3. Bookmark DriveBC and 511 Alberta to monitor the latest road conditions and closures on your travel routes.
  4. Sign Up for the Regional Evacuation Notification System. 
  5. Keep your gas tank at least half full at all times and keep some cash on hand (in smaller sized bills)
  6. Have a grab-and-go kit and an emergency kit ready. Learn more about building a kit here. 
  7. Know the FACTUAL sources to get local fire and emergency updates in your intended destination.
  8. Download the BC Wildfire app and write down the numbers to call to report a wildfire activity: 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 (cell). Early reporting of new fires is critical, so having the BC Wildfire app downloaded on your phone or the numbers easily accessible are important resources.
  9. The latest updates on the wildfires in BC can be found on bcwildfire.ca.
  10. A local emergency information line remains open at 250-426-2188 or toll-free 1-855-346-2188 and, when not staffed, has a recorded message with updated information.
